Fort Wayne, Ind. - The
Robert Morris University volleyball team finished the IPFW tournament Saturday with a 1-2 record for the tournament. The Colonials lost to IPFW, 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-21), in the afternoon match. In the evening match, RMU fell to South Dakota State, 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-24). The two losses dropped the Colonials to 7-9 on the season.
In match one of the day for the Colonials, juniors Haley Schroeder (Kenmore, N.Y. / Kenmore West), Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) and sophomore Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) all finished with a team high nine kills. Schroeder also finished with a team high three total blocks.
Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) tallied a match high 36 assists, along with eight digs, two service aces, two kills and two block assists. On defense, sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) led the way for the Colonials with 10 digs.
Match two on Saturday, saw junior middle blocker / outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) finish with a team high 10 kills. Wolthuis also tallied six digs and one assist.
Storino led the way for the Colonials with a match high 30 assists. She also finished with eight digs, two kills and one block assist. Gibson tallied a match high 14 digs along with one kill.
For the tournament, senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) tallied 31 kills on 67 attempts. She also recorded 11 total blocks, three service aces and one assist.
The Colonials return to action September 29-30, when they travel to Hanover, N.H., for the Dartmouth Invitational. RMU will open the tournament against NJIT Friday, September 29 at 4:30 p.m.
