Volleyball Swept by West Virginia

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University volleyball team fell to Big East opponent West Virginia (10-7), 3-0 (20-30, 31-33, 22-30) Wednesday night at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The loss drops the Colonials to 10-7 on the season.

 

Senior Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) led the Colonial offense with a match high 15 kills, while reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) hit an impressive .400 with nine kills on 20 attempts. Wolthuis also finished with eight digs and one assists, while Graham led the Colonials with four total blocks.

 

Both Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) and Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) tallied eight kills. Lee also recorded eight digs.

 

Senior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) paced RMU with 36 assists, along with three digs and two service aces. Junior Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) recorded a team high 13 digs, while also recording one service ace.

 

The Colonials are next in action Saturday Oct. 13 when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to open their NEC schedule against preseason favorite Long Island. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
