Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University softball team split its double header against Sacred Heart Saturday afternoon, defeating the Pioneers 14-0 in game one, while falling 14-0 in game number two. The Colonials are now 6-10 on the season and 1-1 in Northeast Conference action.
Senior Jill Spargo (Warren, Pa. / Warren) opened the first game with two hits in the first two innings giving her 187 career hits, passing former Colonial Lauren Dickenson for the all-time lead in the RMU record book. Spargo finished the day going 2-for-7 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Susan Perich (Center, Pa. / Center) ended the day by going a combined 5-for-6 with two RBI, while fellow sophomore Brooke Panepinto (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon) went 4-for-7, including 3-for-4, three runs scored and six RBI in game one.
Senior Danielle Cohen (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) picked up her third victory of the season in game one. She pitched five innings giving up only one hit and zero runs, she also struck out seven batters. Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) suffered the loss in game two after pitching two innings giving up four runs on five hits. Stacy Davidson (Akron, Ohio / Springfield) entered the game in relief of Reed, pitching three innings allowing 10 runs on 13 hits.
The Colonials return to action Sunday, April 1, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at Noon. The game will be played at the North Athletic Complex.
