Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University softball team improved to 8-10 overall and 3-1 in Northeast Conference play Monday afternoon when they defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-0 and 13-3, at the North Athletic Complex.
Junior Susan Perich (Center, Pa. / Center) went 4-for-8 on the day including her game ending grand slam in the fifth inning of game two giving the Colonials the victory. She also tallied four RBI and three runs scored. Senior Ashlee Smith (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) led the Colonial offense in game one, with two hits, one run scored a home run and recorded three RBI. Smith went 4-for-8 on the day with four total RBI. Jill Spargo (Warren, Pa. / Warren) finished the day going 6-for-8, including three runs scored and one RBI.
Junior Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) pitched two complete games picking up the victory in both games. She blanked the Knights in game one, allowing only two hits and striking out five batters. In game two, Reed allowed two earned runs, three overall, on eight hits striking out two batters.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday April 4 when they host Akron at the North Athletic Complex. Game one of the double header is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
