Softball Splits with NEC Opponent Mount St. Mary's

Emmitsburg, Md. - The Robert Morris University softball team ran their record to 9-11 overall and to 4-2 in Northeast Conference action Friday as they defeated Mount St. Mary's 10-5 before falling 5-4 in game two of the day.

 

Game one saw plenty of offensive for the Colonials. RMU was lead by senior Ashlee Smith (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one homerun and one run scored. Camille Kline (Titusville, Pa. / Titusville) chipped in by going 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI. Kline also crossed the plate on two occasions. Brooke Panepinto (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon) continued her hot hitting effort by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

 

RMU managed only six hits in game two but scored four runs, two of which were unearned. Megan Picinic Cliffside, N.J. / Immaculate Heart) was the only Colonial with more than one hit by going 2-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI.

 

Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) picked up the victory in game one by pitching all seven innings, recording six strikeouts while allowing five runs on eight hits. Stacy Davidson (Akron, Ohio / Springfield) started game two pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs on five hits tallying three strikeouts. Reed came into the game in relief pitching 1 1/3 innings. Davidson took the loss in game two.

 

The Colonials return to action tomorrow, April 7 as they travel to Monmouth for a double header. Game one is scheduled to start at Noon.
