Softball Falls to Cleveland State

 

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University softball team was swept by non-conference opponent Cleveland State Tuesday afternoon as they dropped game one, 1-0, before losing game two, 7-0. The pair of losses drops the Colonials to 14-22 on the season.

 

The Colonials managed only four hits in game one, with half of the coming from senior Jill Dorsch (Sewickley, Pa. / North Allegheny) who went 2-for-3. Senior Ashlee Smith (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) recorded 10 putouts playing at firstbase. Smith and Megan Lynch (Allison Park, Pa. / Shaler) tallied the other two hits for RMU.

 

Game two, saw the Colonials tally six hits from six different players but still were unable to score a run. Lauren Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J. / Mount St. Dominic), Brooke Panepinto (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon), Smith, Dorsch, Susan Perich (Center, Pa. / Center) and Kristin McDaniel (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) all had one hit for RMU.

 

Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) pitched game one for RMU, allowing only one run on four hits, while striking out one batter. Stacy Davidson (Akron, Ohio / Springfield) pitched game two for the Colonials, allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits, while striking out three batters and walking two.

 

The Colonials return to action on Thursday, May 3, as they host Pittsburgh. Game one of the double header will start at 1:00 p.m.
