Volleyball Splits on First Day of Central Michigan Tournament

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay, 3-0, after falling to tournament host Central Michigan, 3-0, Saturday morning. Heading into the final day of the tournament, the Colonials currently have a 1-1 record.

In the first game of the day, senior middle blocker / outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center / South Christian) lead the team with 12 kills, while also tallying six digs, one assist and one block. Freshman middle blocker Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) made her presence felt in her first career collegiate game, recording six kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) also tallied six kills, along with three digs, one block assist and one service ace.

Senior Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished with a team high 30 assists, while junior Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) recorded a game high 16 digs.

In game two of the day for RMU, Graham built on her first appearance in a collegiate game, by tallying 12 kills, five digs and five block assists. Stambaugh also tallied double-digit kills with 10, along with two digs and one service ace.

Storino tallied a double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs, while Gibson finished with 23 digs.  Wolthuis tallied 18 digs and nine kills.

The Colonials return to action tomorrow as they take on Siena at 10:00 a.m. on the final day of the Central Michigan Tournament.
