Loretto, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated Howard on the first day of the Saint Francis (Pa.) Tournament, 3-0 (30-20, 30-14, 30-19). With the victory, the Colonials improved to, 6-4, on the season.
RMU tallied nearly three times as many kills as Howard, with freshman Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) tallying a match high 11 kills. She also finished with three service aces, three total blocks and two digs. For the game RMU totaled 42 kills compared to Howard's 15.
Three Colonials tallied double-digit digs with junior Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) leading the way with 13. Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) and Jessica Camaioni (Williamstown, N.J. / Williamstown) both finished with 12 digs. Stambaugh also finished with eight digs and three service aces.
Senior Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) paced RMU with a match high 30 assists.
The Colonials finished the match with a .200 hitting percentage, while Howard finished with a -.119 hitting percentage.
RMU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 22 as they close out the Saint Francis (Pa.) Tournament against host Saint Francis (Pa.) at 12:30 p.m. and Coppin State at 3:00 p.m.
