Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University softball team lost a pair of games at Pittsburgh on Tuesday, falling in game one, 9-2, and, 9-0, in game two. The Colonials now own an overall record of 18-16 on the season.
Freshman Jessica Calderone (Wilmington, Del. / St. Marks) drove in RMU's first run in the third inning of game one to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead. Calderone singled to right field, scoring pinch runner Megan Picinic (Cliffside, N.J. / Immaculate Heart).
Pitt answered with four runs in each of the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take an 8-1 advantage. RMU tacked on its second run of the game to close within 8-2 in the top of the fifth. Calderone scored on an error and finished 3-for-4 at the plate in the opening contest of the doubleheader. Pitt added another run in the bottom of the frame to help settle the final score at 9-2.
Senior Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) took the loss, allowing nine runs on eight hits over six innings.
The Colonials failed to score a run in game two, falling 9-0 in five innings. Freshmen Lindsey Moates (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) and Annie Dubovec (Chargin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) both saw action in the circle, with Moates allowing six runs on four hits, while Dubovec allowed three runs on five hits. Junior Brooke Panepinto (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon) finished 2-for-2 as Robert Morris registered just five hits in the night cap.
The Colonials return to action Thursday, April 17, when they host Youngstown State at the North Athletic Complex.
