St. Bonaventure, N.Y. ? The Robert Morris University softball team split its doubleheader with St. Bonaventure Wednesday night, no-hitting the Bonnies en route to a, 1-0, victory in game one before falling, 3-2, in the second game of the evening. The Colonials are now 24-18 on the season.
The pitching tandem of senior Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) and freshman Lindsey Moates (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) combined to no-hit the Bonnies in game one. Reed threw four hitless innings while allowing a pair of free passes and Moates tossed the final three innings.
The Colonial offense got the only run it would need in the first inning when junior Lauren Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J. / Mount St. Dominic) scored on a Reed single. Nisivoccia was able to score after advancing to third via a wild pitch. Â
The Bonnies got the best of the Colonials in game two of the doubleheader however, getting on the board first in the third inning with a pair of runs and never letting go of the lead. The Colonials cut the lead to, 2-1, after a freshman Annie Dubovec (Chargin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) one out double who then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior Camille Kline (Titusville, Pa. / Titusville) drove Dubovec home with an RBI single to left field.
St. Bonaventure scored the eventual game winner in the bottom of the sixth inning when Andrea Swanger scored on a Kristin Strong double to right center. Robert Morris added one more run in the top of the seventh inning with a Kristin McDaniel (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) sacrifice fly making the score, 3-2, Kline however got out on the play ending the game.
Dubovec was charged with the loss, tossing five and one-third innings allowing three runs on seven hits. She also tallied two strike outs.
The Colonials return to Northeast Conference action on Saturday, April 26 as they travel to Sacred Heart for a pair of games.
