Colonials Sweep Doubleheader Against Wagner

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University softball team swept Northeast Conference opponent Wagner by defeating them, 3-2 and 12-1, Monday afternoon. With the pair of victories, the Colonials improve to 13-13 overall and 5-1 in NEC action.

 

The Colonials took game one after falling behind, 2-0, in the bottom of the first inning. Robert Morris tied the game at two in the fifth inning when Brooke Panepinto (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon) belted a two RBI single into center field scoring Kristin McDaniel (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) and Jessica Calderone (Wilmington, De. / St. Marks). Calderone scored the game winning run in the seventh inning when Brenna Reed (Carnegie, Pa. / Montour) reached first base by a Wagner error.

 

Lindsey Moates (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) picked up the victory, pitching five and one-third innings striking out five batters. Moates allowed only one hit, while walking one batter.

 

Robert Morris scored 12 runs in the first three innings of game two, taking a, 12-0, lead. The Colonials scored five runs in the first highlighted by a Susan Perich (Center, Pa. / Center) three run home run to left field. RMU then added five more runs in the second and a final run in the third when Panepinto lead off the inning with a double and later scored by way of a Stacy Davidson (Akron, Ohio / Springfield) walk.

 

Annie Dubovec (Chargin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) picked up her first career victory pitching only a third of an inning, Moates finished the game allowing three hits and one run, while striking out five batters.
