Robert Morris Splits on Opening Day at Miami (OH) Tournament

Oxford, Ohio . - On Friday afternoon, Robert Morris University softball team traveled west to the campus of Miami University to kick off a three day tournament hosted by the RedHawks.  The Colonials opened the day on a positive note as they downed Toledo, 6-2.  However, Robert Morris struggled offensively in the second contest as the the host squad handed them a, 6-1, defeat.

Game One - Robert Morris vs. Toledo

Sophomore Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa.  / Chartiers-Houston) put the Colonials out in front with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as she blasted a shot to center field for her first round-tripper of the season.

Toledo then struck back with a lone run in the bottom of the frame to deadlock the game at one.

However, RMU would take the lead in the second and never look back as they tallied one in the second, a pair in the third and single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Timko went three-for-three in the contest with a single in the second and a double in the sixth.    Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland)  and Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour) both picked up two hits in the victory.  Patton earned one RBI while Capp drove in two runs.

In the circle, sophomore Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) struck out 11 batters and only allowed two earned runs in her third win of the 2010 season.

Game Two - Robert Morris vs. Miami

In the second feature of the day, the RedHawks wasted little time taking a two run advantage in the bottom of the second.  Miami then added one run in the third and three in the fourth to hold a 6-0 lead.

Robert Morris finally tallied a score in the top of the seventh when sophomore Katrina Gallagher (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canonsburg-McMillan) singled and ultimately scored on a wild pitch.

Junior starting pitcher, Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston), suffered the loss and allowed six runs in three and a half innings of work.  Bryson pitched the remainder of the contest in scoreless relief.

Robert Morris (4-7 ; 0-0 NEC) will face Michigan State at 4:00 p.m. and will meet Toledo for the third time this season at 6:00 p.m.
