Moon Township, Pa. - On a rainy and cool afternoon, the Robert Morris University softball team opened the home portion of its 2010 slate at the North Athletic Complex with a single game against the Cleveland State Vikings. The Viking bats came alive early as Cleveland State defeated RMU, 6-1, in a five-inning contest that was shortened due to the rain.
Junior pitcher Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) made the start in the circle for the Colonials as she allowed five hits and six runs while walking four batters.
In the top half the of first, the Vikings posted three runs to take the early advantage. However in the bottom portion of the frame, the Colonials struck back with one of their own as Jessica Calderone (Wilmington, Del / St. Marks) drove in Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) for RMU's lone score.
Cleveland State would then go on to add two runs in the second and another in the third before the game was ended after five innings.
The Colonials (6-9 ; 0-0 NEC) will begin conference action this Saturday and Sunday with a pair of NEC twin bills. On Saturday, RMU will face Fairleigh Dickinson at 1:00 p.m. and will meet Monmouth at noon on Sunday.
