Buffalo, NY - After winning four-straight last week, the Robert Morris University softball team stumbled as they tangled with the Golden Griffins on the campus of Canisius University in double header action on Monday afternoon. Canisius slipped past the Colonials with just one run in the opening contest, but exploded with 10 runs in the second to defeat RMU, 10-1 in game two.
In a pitchers duel, the teams went six innings before the Golden Griffins finally managed to score a run in the bottom of the sixth frame thanks to a lone home run. Robert Morris was then retired with three straight outs in the top of the seventh as Canisius escaped with the, 1-0, victory.
Sophomore Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) struck out 10 and allowed just five hits in the loss.
Game two came to a quick end in five innings as Canisius tallied four runs in the first, and three in both the second and fifth frames.
The Colonials never managed to jump start their offense as they recorded their only run of the afternoon in the third inning. Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland) laid down a bunt to reach first, and scored when Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour) brought her in with an infield single.
In the circle, Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) pitched four innings as she retired three and walked five in the disappointing, 10-1 loss.
On Wednesday, the Colonials (12-12 ; 4-1 NEC) will attempt to bounce back at home as they host visiting Akron for a pair at the North Athletic Complex. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
