Colonials Drop Kent State, 7-3

Kent, Ohio - On Wednesday afternoon, the Robert Morris University softball team used a 13 hit attack to defeat the Golden Flash on the campus of Kent State University.  In the 7-3 victory, four Colonials had multi-hit games as sophomore pitcher Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe)  picked up her 18th win of the season.

The Colonials took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a four hit inning and a two-RBI double from sophomore Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour).

Robert Morris added another run in the second when Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland) singled to drive in Kayla Crooks (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brashear).  However, Kent bounced back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to deadlock the game.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Colonials put up one run and reclaimed a lead which they would never relinquish.

With another four-hit outburst in the sixth, Robert Morris tacked on three more runs to seal the 7-3 win.  Patton smashed a triple for her third hit of the day to drive in Crooks and Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston).  Finally Patton scored the last RMU run off a single from Jessica Calderone (Wilmington, Del  / St. Marks).

Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio  / Kenston) made the start in the circle and pitched just over one inning before Bryson entered for the remainder of the contest.  Bryson allowed no runs as she struck out an impressive 11 batters in less than six innings of work.

Robert Morris (26-17 ; 13-6 NEC) will continue its week of non-conference play on Wednesday with a twin bill at cross-town rival, Pittsburgh. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
