Box Score Muncie, Ind. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team fell to Oakland, 3-0, in its opening match of the Ball State Tournament at Worthen Arena Friday night.
Despite the loss, senior captain Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) became just the fifth Colonial in program history to surpass the 300-block mark for her career by recording a match-high four blocks.
Sophomores Amanda Craig (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) and Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) led RMU with a team-high six kills. Freshman setter Alex Deines (Centennial, Colo. / Littleton) added a team-high 15 assists and senior captain Corinne Moser (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale) provided a team-high 13 digs for the Colonials.
Robert Morris opened up a quick 3-1 edge in the first game, but a 10-0 Oakland run put RMU in a spot from which it was unable to recover as the Colonials dropped a 25-16 decision to open the match. Robert Morris fell 25-12 in the second game before mounting a serious challenge in the final game. RMU trailed by a single point, 13-12, midway through the third game after a kill by senior Charla Drabant (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North), but Oakland closed strongly and wrapped up a 25-15 victory.
Oakland was led by Megan Bray's 18 kills and nine digs.
The Colonials will seek to get back on track tomorrow as they conclude the tournament with two matches. RMU will play the host Cardinals at 12:30 p.m. before a meeting with Tennessee State at 5 p.m.
