Bryant Posts Come-From-Behind Win Over RMU, 34-27

Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. - Jordan Brown's 10-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds to play helped lift Bryant to a 34-27 victory over the Robert Morris University football team Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-3 overall on the 2011 campaign with the victory, including 3-2 in the Northeast Conference, while the Colonials dropped their second straight to fall to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

RMU had taken a 27-20 advantage with 6:41 remaining when junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) tossed his third touchdown pass of the day, connecting with senior wide receiver Jamie Cobb (Casa Grande, Ariz. / Scottsdale Community College) for a 14-yard score that capped a 10-play, 59-yard drive.

The Bulldogs responded on their next possession to tie the score, 27-27, when Mike Croce hit tight end Matt Tracey with a 13-yard touchdown pass with 3:16 to play.

Robert Morris looked to be driving on its next possession, reaching the Bryant 45-yard line after two rushes for 21 yards from redshirt freshman running back Deontae Howard (Clairton, Pa. / Clairton) and a personal foul penalty by the Bulldogs. However, Sinclair was sacked for an 11-yard loss on 1st-and-10 and threw two consecutive incompletions, forcing the Colonials to punt.

Jordan Harris came through on special teams for Bryant, blocking freshman Tony LaMancusa's (Tonawanda, N.Y. / St. Joseph's) punt. A mad scramble for the loose ball ensued, with Bryant recovering on the 25-yard line of Robert Morris with 1:16 to go. Three plays later Brown scored his second touchdown of the game to bolster the Bulldogs to victory.

RMU owned a 20-13 halftime advantage thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Sinclair and a pair of field goals by junior kicker Greg Langer (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) in the first half. Sinclair's first touchdown pass of the day went for 12 yards to senior tight end Shadrae King (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) with 11:25 to play before halftime and gave the Colonials a 10-6 advantage.

Bryant jumped back in front, 13-10, when Croce hit Jordan Harris with a 34-yard touchdown pass, but Sinclair found senior wide receiver Anthony Coleman (Cheltenham, Md. / St. John's College High School) for a 16-yard touchdown pass with 3:48 to go before the break to push Robert Morris back on top, 17-13. Langer's 36-yard field goal with just three seconds left before intermission gave the Colonials their touchdown advantage.

The only score of the third quarter came courtesy of Tracey, who caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Croce at the 5:22 mark and tied the game, 20-20.

Brown finished with 179 yards rushing on 22 carries on the afternoon, including a 49-yard touchdown on the fourth play from scrimmage that gave Bryant an early 6-0 advantage. Croce finished 20-for-28 passing for 249 yards and three touchdowns, while Tracey led the receiving corps of the Bulldogs with eight receptions for 92 yards and two scores.

Sinclair completed 20 of his 42 passing attempts for 227 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. King recorded six catches for 48 yards and a touchdown, Cobb added five receptions for 70 yards and a score and Coleman compiled four catches for 57 yards and a touchdown in a balanced attack for the RMU receiving corps.

Howard finished with 62 yards rushing on 16 carries to pace the RMU ground game.

Junior safety Cameron Chadwick (Vista, Calif. / College of Canyons) finished with a team-high 12 tackles to lead Robert Morris, while junior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof (Gibsonia, Pa. / Mars Area) recorded two of RMU's four sacks of the afternoon among his five tackles and also added a pass breakup.
