Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team won their fourth consecutive Northeast Conference contest as they swept Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials took the sets by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-9.
In the first set, the Colonials would jump out to an early advantage before Quinnipiac would tie the set at 12. The Bobcats would take a brief advantage with the score 16-17 before RMU would end the set on a 9-1 run to take the first set 25-18. The Colonials hit .346 in the set as Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) led the squad with five kills. Hannah Hoffman (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) assisted on 12 of the team's 13 kills. Sophomore Becky Jay (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) contributed two service aces while she was one of three Colonials to record two block assists. Libero Andrea Catucci (Davidsonville, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) led RMU with four digs in the opening set.
The two teams would split the first six points of the second set before the Colonials would take control of the set. Behind two five-point runs, the Colonials would take the set by the score of 25-14. Senior Amanda Craig (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) paced the team with three kills while also being one of four Colonials to contribute a block assist in the set. Hoffman recorded nine more assists on the Colonials' eleven kills while recording the only ace for either team in the set. Sophomore Erica Robb (Novi, Mich. / Novi) recorded a set-high four digs.
In the final set, RMU would take a commanding advantage early behind a ten-point run with Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) serving. The Colonials closed out the set by taking seven of the final eight point to win 25-9. Robb would pace the Colonials with three kills in the third set. Hoffman would again record nine assists, as well as being one of two players to contribute a service ace in the set. Seniors Catucci and Monger would each tally five digs in the closing set. Fellow senior Una Japundza (Rovinj, Croatia / Zvane Crnja) would assist on each of the team's four blocks in the set.
For the match, Monger would lead the Colonials with nine kills while Jay would end the game converting eight of her ten attempts. Hoffman tallied 30 assists on 34 of RMU's kills. Catucci and Bograd each recorded double-digit digs in the three-set victory. Japundza led Robert Morris with a new career-high of seven block assists in the game.
The Colonials will travel to Saint Francis (Pa.) for a mid-week contest on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Robert Morris will then return to the Sewall Center for a pair of NEC contests over the weekend as Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson will make the trip westward.
