RMU Extends Unbeaten Streak to Five

Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team pushed its unbeaten streak to five matches after a four-set victory on Saturday afternoon over St. Francis (N.Y.) by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Senior Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) recorded her second consecutive double-double as she tallied 21 kills and 18 digs.  Fellow senior Andrea Catucci (Davidsonville, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) was one of two Colonials to record over twenty digs as she tallied 24; the other was sophomore Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) who knotched 21 digs.  Fellow sophomore Hannah Hoffman (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) recorded 43 assists on the team's 67 kills.  Becky Jay (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) contributed four block assists on the Colonials' seven blocks.

In the first set, the Colonials would fall behind early allowing the first three points before rallying for the next three.  The two teams would continue to trade points and control of the lead all the way until the two teams were tied at 13.  At that point, the Colonials would take control of the set and slowly grow a four-point advantage that would give them a 25-21 set victory.

The second set saw the two teams split the first eight points to ties the set at 4-4.  Robert Morris would rattle off the next four points to take an early 8-4 advantage before St. Francis answered with four straight points of their own.  Robert Morris would obtain a three-point advantage with the score 20-17 before the Terriers would rally with eight of the next ten points to take the set by a score of 22-25.

Coming out of the intermission, Robert Morris would quickly jump out to a 4-1 lead before allowing the Terriers to score the next three points.  With Catucci serving, the Colonials would embark on a rally of seven straight points to push the score to 11-4.  The Terriers would never be able to recover from that run even as the two teams would play evenly as they split the remaining points - each scoring 14 - as a rotation error by St. Francis would give RMU its 25th point and the set win 25-18.

In the final set, The Colonials would again take and early three-point lead with the score 5-2.  St. Francis would tie the set at nine.  Robert Morris would hold an advantage through the middle of the set, even holding a four-point advantage with the score 19-15.  The Terriers would score the next four points to rally and tie the game at 19.  The next four points were split between the two teams before RMU closed out the set scoring the final four points to come away victorious 25-21.

The victory sets the stage for a clash of the last two unbeaten teams in conference play as the Colonials will host the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds on Sunday afternoon with first serve at 1:00 p.m.
