Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team ensured itself of a winning season with a 3-0 sweep of St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon. With set scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-19; the Colonials now have an eight-game winning streak against Northeast Conference opponents heading in to their regular season finale tomorrow afternoon.
RMU would fall behind early to the Terriers before taking the lead while claiming seven of nine points from St. Francis (N.Y.) to hold a 11-9 advantage. After an ace from senior Andrea Catucci (Davidsonville, Md. / Archbishop Spalding), the Terriers would take their first timeout of the set with the score 16-14. The timeout would stop the Colonials momentum for the time being before an attacking error by the Terriers would force their coach to use the team's second timeout with the score 21-17. The Colonials would claim five of the final seven points of the set to walk away victorious by the score of 25-19.
The Colonials would open the second set with the first four points as sophomore Hannah Hoffman (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) was serving for the team. Not to be outdone, Catucci would step to the line and serve nine consecutive times while Robert Morris would take a 14-2 lead. Allowing Catucci to continue her serving were three kills by Sydney Sizemore (Taylor Mill, Ky. / Holy Cross). With the twelve-point advantage, the Colonials would keep the offense going and close out the set by a score of 25-11 while hitting .533 as a team.
In the final set of the match, Robert Morris would hold an early advantage before the Terriers would tie the set with the score 6-6. The two teams would be tied three more times - including with the score 11-11 - before the Colonials would take the lead for good. RMU would hold a lead of seven points with the score 24-17 before closing out the set by a score of 25-19.
Seniors Amanda Craig (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) and Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) would each end the match with double-digit kills. Monger would also add 10 kills to record yet another double-double.
The Colonials will conclude their regular-season slate with a match against LIU-Brooklyn tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
