Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team drop its final regular season game in four sets to the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials would drop the first two sets by scores of 13-25 and 19-25 before claiming the third set by the score of 25-18 and letting the final set slip away with the score 18-25.
RMU would come out and allow the Blackbirds to take six of the first eight points of the opening set. The early deficit would be too much for the Colonials to overcome as the team would fall 13-25 while only tallying six kills in the set. In the second set, Robert Morris would fall behind early before rallying to tie the set at 8-8. The Colonials would not be able to overtake the Blackbirds for the lead as LIU-Brooklyn would slowly pull away with a 19-25 set victory.
Coming out for the third set, Robert Morris would again fall behind early, this time the team would be facing a three-point deficit with the score 1-4. The Colonials would proceed to take the next eight points. The run for RMU would be sparked by two consecutive blocks involving sophomore Becky Jay (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan). Libero Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) would then contribute consecutive service aces to further extend the advantage for Robert Morris. The sudden momentum shift would stun LIU-Brooklyn as the Colonials would maintain the lead for the remainder of the set for a victory by the score of 25-18.
Carrying the momentum of a third set victory, the Colonials would come out and go point-for-point with the Blackbirds as the two teams would exchange the lead five times while the score would be tied on eight seperate occasions. The two teams would be tied with the score 15-15 before LIU-Brooklyn would take ten of the final thirteen point to claim a match victory with a fourth-set score of 18-25.
The offense for RMU would again be led by seniors Amanda Craig (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) and Lindsey Monger (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) as both would record double-digit kills in consecutive games. Five different Colonials would record double-digit digs as Monger would lead the team with 20 digs. Jay fould finish the match with eight block assists while the team would record eleven blocks in the defeat.
Robert Morris will return to the campus of LIU-Brooklyn next weekend to compete in the Northeast Conference post-season tournament as the #2 seed. The Colonials will take on Central Connecticut State on Saturday at a time to be determined.
