Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - The
Robert Morris University volleyball team clinched their 14th straight Northeast
Conference playoff berth with a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday
afternoon. On senior day, the Colonials would win the match by
scores of 2517, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-21.
In the first set, the two
teams would exchange the first ten points before RMU would go on a five-point
run. The run would distance Robert
Morris from the Pioneers with the score 10-5.
The Colonials would increase their lead to ten points with the score
22-12 before winning the set 25-17. RMU
would hit .333 in the set as sophomore Erica Robb (Novi, Mich. / Novi) led the
team with five kills in the set while hitting .417.
Robert Morris would open the
second set by taking the first three points.
Sacred Heart would respond by obtaining thirteen of the next sixteen
points and creating a seven-point advantage with the score 6-13. RMU would rally and tie the set at 17 before
forcing the Pioneers to take their second timeout of the set. The two teams would trade off points as the
score would now be tied at 22. Sacred
Heart would close out the set by taking three of the final four points for the
victory 23-25.
Coming out of the
intermission, the Colonials would hold their first lead of the third set with the
score 4-3 after allowing Sacred Heart to take the first two points of the
set. Robert Morris would increase their
lead to eight points after a seven-point run to make the score 18-10. The Pioneers would fight back and cut the RMU
lead to two points with the score 24-22 before Robert Morris claimed the set
25-22. Senior Lindsey Monger (Rising
Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) paced the Colonials to a .303 hitting percentage as she
successfully converted six of her nine kill attempts. Sophomore Hannah Hoffman (Parker, Colo. /
Ponderosa) assisted on each of the Colonials thirteen kills.
In the closing set, the
Colonials would take the first three points as Robb would tally three
kills. Robert Morris would hold on to
their early lead throughout the set. The
largest RMU lead would be five points with the score 23-18 before taking the
fourth set by a score of 25-21.
Robb and Monger would each
record a double-double in the four-set match.
Robb managed sixteen kills and thirteen digs while Monger led the team
with seventeen kills and nineteen digs. Senior
libero Andrea Catucci (Davidsonville, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) recorded
sixteen digs. Middle blocker Becky Jay
(Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) recorded seven block assists on the Colonials'
twelve blocks in the match.
Robert Morris will play
their final home contest of the season as they host Fairleigh Dickinson on
Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
