Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – October 26, 2013 - The Robert Morris University volleyball team put together its first win streak of the season after sweeping Northeast Conference foe Bryant on Saturday afternoon.  Holding the Bulldogs to a negative hitting percentage in the match, the Colonials took the three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-15.

Robert Morris (6-18, 5-3 NEC) controlled each set from start to finish in the sweep of Bryant (8-20, 3-6 NEC).  In the opening set, the Bulldogs would hold the lead just once when the score was 2-1 before the Colonials went on a three-point run to regain the advantage.  RMU's big break would come with Sydney Sizemore (Taylor Mill, Ky. / Holy Cross) serving as the Colonials strung together five consecutive points to increase their lead to six.  With Sizemore serving for a second time, Robert Morris would again embark on a three-point run that put the set away, 25-16.

Bryant would open the second set collecting the first three points before the Colonials would get on the board.  Sizemore would serve after the Colonials earned their first point and led RMU to a seven-point run that gave Robert Morris the lead.  The Colonials would hold the lead for the remainder of the set and increase their advantage with a six-point run while April Krivoniak (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) was serving and the score was 16-7.  The Colonials would close out the second set  with a tandem block by Kristin Thompson (Monroe, Ohio / Bishop Fenwick) and Krivoniak to make the score 25-16.

The Colonials opened the third set with the first nine points while Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) was serving.  The run was more than enough to hold off the Bulldogs despite Bryant trying to battle back with a four-point run.  A solo block by Becky Jay (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) closed out the match with the score 25-15.

RMU's attack was led by Arden Fisher (Oakmont, Pa. / Riverview) who recorded a match-high nine kills.  Bograd and Fisher each recorded at least ten digs on the defensive side; Bograd with a match-high 14 digs and Fisher with 11 digs.  Jay led the blocking crusade for the Colonials with two solo blocks and one block assist.  Hannah Hoffman (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) and Thompson each recorded a solo block.

The Colonials return to action tomorrow afternoon with a match at 1:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut at the Charles L. Sewall Center.
