Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex — The
Robert Morris University men's soccer team rolled past the Howard Bison, 4-1, in the team's final non-conference and home game at North Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon. Four different players scored goals for the Colonials highlighted by four-point efforts – one goal and two assists each – from sophomore forward
Neco Brett (Kingston, Jamaica / Excelsior) and junior midfielder
Devon Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Georges).
Brett, with nine points on two goals and five assists in the last two games, now has 32 points this season, the third-most in team history and most since
Jacek Przednowek tallied 34 in the 2007 season. The sophomore sniper's goal Sunday was his sixth gamewinner of the year, a new RMU record.
The Jamaican-born teammates of Brett and Williams went to work in the 35
th minute as they moved the ball back-and forth through the heart of the Howard defense. The scoring effort ended with Brett playing the ball from the right endline back to the center of the box where Williams easily tallied his second marker of the year.
Williams and Brett set-up the second goal in the 41
st minute as well. Williams found Brett in the center of the box and he played a pass back to senior
Miro Cabrilo (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale Secondary). The senior midfielder eyed his shot before hitting a right-to-left bender that curled inside the right post.
Two minutes later, the Colonials fifth corner kick of the game made it 3-0 when Brett headed a Cabrilo service from the six-yard line to the far corner for his 12
th marker of the season.
The Bison cut the margin to 3-1 with 20 seconds left in the opening frame. Samaila Samaila carried the ball down the right sideline, then cut in towards the box. He found Frederick Todd III at the top of the box and he buried his shot in to the upper right corner from 16 yards out.
After a listless second half, Williams took a free kick in the 85
th minute putting a direct kick on net from 19 yards out. Eric Hamilton made the save for Howard, but senior
Luca Campos (Monaca, Pa. / Center) was there to bury the rebound for his second marker of the year.
Robert Morris travel to Northeast Conference leader Central Connecticut State for an important league game Sunday, Nov. 3. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
