Robert Morris Falls in Straight Sets

The Colonials drop to 2-2 in Northeast Conference play after a loss to NEC foe LIU Brooklyn.

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's volleyball team dropped a key conference match against LIU Brooklyn in straight sets on Sunday afternoon; 13-25, 23-25, 18-25.

The opening set of the match would be led by LIU Brooklyn (11-6, 4-0 NEC) from start to finish as Robert Morris (2-16, 2-2 NEC) allowed the Blackbirds to take the first four points.  The Blackbirds would open up an early 7-1 advantage that forced the Colonials to take an early timeout.  Out of the timeout, RMU would cut its deficit to two points after a four-point run.  The Colonials would stay within striking distance before a four-point run by the Blackbirds created a six-point deficit for RMU, 17-11.  LIU Brooklyn would close out the set with the final six points to take the opening set, 25-13.

The second set was highly contested as the lead changed hands seven times.  The Colonials would hold the lead in the early portion of the set until a four-point run by the Blackbirds allowed LIU Brooklyn to pull tied with RMU.  For the remainder of the set, the two teams would exchange punches and counterpunches as neither team was able to hold a lead despite multiple multi-point runs by each team.  Holding a 23-21 advantage, Robert Morris would allow the Blackbirds to take the final four points of the set as they took a commanding two-set lead after a 25-23 victory in the middle frame.

The final set of the match saw the Colonials take the lead early and fight the Blackbirds point for point until LIU Brooklyn went on a seven-point run.  The run started with RMU down a single point, 15-14, before finding itself in an eight-point hole, 22-14.  The Blackbirds would go on to win the third set by a score of 25-18 to take the match in straight sets.

Sydney Sizemore (Taylor Mill, Ky. / Holy Cross) led the Colonials' attack with eight kills.  Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) recorded a match-high 12 digs in the defensive zone while RMU would out-block the Blackbirds on the net.

Robert Morris returns to action with a three-game road trip that begins on Thursday, Oct. 10 with an evening match at Massachusetts-Lowell.  After stepping away from conference play, the Colonials return to NEC action on Saturday afternoon at Central Connecticut.
