Colonials Stumble in Regular Season Finale

Robert Morris falls to Fairleigh Dickinson in final home game of the season.

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – November 16, 2013 - The Robert Morris University volleyball concluded regular season play with an afternoon contest against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.  Preparing for the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament, the Colonials would stumble and be swept by the Knights; 22-25, 25-27, 23-25.

With the loss, Robert Morris (9-21, 8-6 NEC) will be the fourth seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament.

RMU would drop the first set to Fairleigh Dickinson (5-24, 3-11 NEC) as the Knights went on runs of seven and five points to take the first set by a score of 25-22.  April Krivoniak (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) and Sydney Sizemore (Taylor Mill, Ky. / Holy Cross) led the attack for the Colonials as each recorded four kills.  Defensively, Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) provided seven digs.

The second set would feature six lead changes as Robert Morris extended the set before falling, 27-25.  The Colonials would overcome two four-point runs by the Knights before allowing Fairleigh Dickinson to earn the final three points of the set.  Sizemore continued to have the hot hand in the second frame providing another four kills while Bograd would again provide seven digs defensively.

Just as thrilling as the second set, the third set would have five lead changes before the Colonials dropped the set, 25-23.  The big break for the Knights came when RMU allowed them to gain five consecutive points that created a three-point deficit for the Colonials.  Krivoniak and Kristin Thompson (Monroe, Ohio / Bishop Fenwick) each contributed four kills.

Sizemore finished the match with 11 kills while Krivoniak recorded 10 kills.  Bograd picked up her 20-dig match this season with 20 digs against the Knights.

The Colonials will travel to LIU Brooklyn for the NEC Tournament and take on the host Blackbirds on Saturday at a time to be determined.
