Box Score
Bloomington, Ind. – In the second match of the Indiana Invitational, the story remained quite similar for the Robert Morris University volleyball squad. Going up against Kent State, the Colonials would fall in straight sets; 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
Robert Morris would open the match with the first point and carry an early lead. Every time that the Colonials would capture a point, Kent State would have a response that would pull the two clubs even again. An early two-point cushion, with the score 7-5, would be the largest lead that RMU would have in the set. Holding the two-point lead, the Colonials would allow Kent State to record the next six points to gain control of the lead which the Golden Flashes would never relinquish. A four-point deficit would balloon to as many as ten points for the Colonials before dropping the first set by a score of 25-15.
The second set would see Kent State jump out to an 8-0 lead while coasting to a second-set victory. Despite the deficit, Robert Morris remained resilient and matched the Golden Flashes point-for-point down the stretch. In the latter stages of the set, the Colonials had pulled to within three points after gathering eight consecutive points. Despite the run, Kent State would take the second set, 25-17.
The third set would play out in a very similar manner to the second as Kent State jumped out to an early lead, gathering the first five points before Robert Morris got on the board. The Golden Flashes would push their lead to eight points numerous times in the set and with the score 17-9 the Colonials would take seven points in a row to pull within one, 17-16. Unfortunately, that was the closest that RMU would get as shortly after its run was ended, Kent State went on its own seven-point run to put the set and the match out of reach. The set ended with the same score as the second, 25-17, in favor of Kent State.
Sydney Sizemore (Taylor Mill, Ky. / Holy Cross) paced the Colonials with eight kills while Arden Fisher (Oakmont, Pa. / Riverview) finished the match with seven. Erica Robb (Novi, Mich. / Novi) and Fisher each finished with a team-high ten kills.
The Colonials finish the Indiana Invitational with a second match today against Rutgers. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 as Robert Morris takes on its first-ever opponent from the American Athletic Conference.
