Fairfield, Conn. – Three different players tallied goals as the
Robert Morris University men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win at Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon, the team's first Northeast Conference victory of the season. The Colonials move to 6-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the NEC while the Pioneers remain winless at 0-13-2 and 0-4-1 in league games.
The Colonials got off to a quick start Sunday, taking the lead just 3:01 after the opening kickoff. Freshman
Rafael Bruzual tallied his second score of the year, ripping a shot from 20 yards that snuck in just under the crossbar.
Sacred Heart responded nearly as quickly, equalizing the game when Dylan Santos found Mahmoud Kafel in the center of the RMU box. Kafel's strike from 10 yards came in the game's sixth minute. That's where the score remained until halftime.
Junior
Neco Brett, the nation's leading scorer, put the Colonials on top to stay just 24 seconds after the start of the second half. He took the ball from a Pioneer defender in the SHU box, then picked his spot and fired a shot inside the near post for his 14th marker of the year.
Speedy Williams iced the game with seven seconds left in regulation,
Jared Latchford setting
Speedy Williams in on goal where the Jamaican-native was able to send a sniper shot in the top right corner.
Junior
Brenden Alfery finished with eight saves to earn the victory as RMU outshot SHU, 20-18.
Robert Morris returns to North Athletic Complex to host the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils in a 3:00 p.m. game Friday, Oct. 31.
