Brooklyn, N.Y. – The
Robert Morris University volleyball team will play for a share of the Northeast Conference (NEC) title tomorrow afternoon after breaking out the brooms on St. Francis Brooklyn today from the Genovesi Center.
Robert Morris (14-15, 12-1 NEC) completed a clean season sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn (2-27, 0-13 NEC) after hitting at a .255 clip on the match.
Senior libero
Melissa Bograd collected 12 digs on the afternoon, moving her past Molly McCann (1991-94) and Julie Sector (1999-02) for fourth in program history. Bograd is now at 1,545 digs for her career and is now 39 shy of jumping into the top three.
Sophomore outside hitter
Arden Fisher extended her double-double streak to four matches with a team-high 11 kills and 14 digs. The double-double is Fisher's 13th of the season and 22nd of her career.
Senior outside hitter
Sydney Sizemore and sophomore middle blocker
April Krivoniak were the catalysts on offense for the Colonials this afternoon. Sizemore converted on eight of her 12 swings, while Krivoniak nabbed six kills on 10 attempts in her first match since Oct. 26 at Sacred Heart. Both players missed on one spike to set their hitting percentages at .583 and .500, respectively.
Senior middle blocker
Becky Jay collected two block assists, leaving her now nine total blocks shy of breaking the program record.
Setters
Hannah Hoffman and
Brianna Frakes combined for 34 assists, dishing out 20 and 14, respectively.
RMU took the first set, 25-22. Fisher found the floor on five of her seven swings, while Bograd collected five digs in the frame.
Sizemore and Krivoniak dominated in the middle stanza, combining for seven kills on 10 attempts as the Colonials took the set, 25-18.
RMU completed the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third frame. Junior middle blocker
Kristin Thompson tallied three of her seven kills in the stanza, while the Colonials as a team picked up four points off blocks.
Robert Morris completes the regular season tomorrow at LIU Brooklyn. With a victory, the Colonials will clinch a share of their first NEC title since 2008. A three-set victory will give RMU home-court advantage in the NEC Tournament. Opening serve between the Colonials and Blackbirds is set for 1:00 p.m. from the Steinberg Wellness Center.
