RMU Evens Record With Win at Coppin State

Baltimore, Md. – Anna Niki Stamolamprou and Jolie Olingende both scored career highs as the Robert Morris University women's basketball team improved to 2-2 with a 75-58 win at Coppin State University Tuesday afternoon. Stamolamprou finished with 22 points while Olingende chipped in with 12 points.

Stamolamprou went 8-of-15 from the field and hit four-of-six three-pointers. She tacked on seven rebounds. Olingended was 4-4 from the field, chipping in with two boards.

Ashley Ravelli finished with 12 points as well, doing all her scoring from three-pointer range with four treys on seven attempts. Jocelynne Jones just missed on her first career double-double, scoring nine points and ripping down a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior point guard Randi Jackson had seven assists.

"It was a great atmosphere as we played in front another real good crowd of 2,500 people. Acutally, I think the crowd helped energized us," said 12th year head coach Sal Buscaglia. "I think, once again, it was a great overall team performance with so many people contributing. Winning two games on the road in three days is something that we can certainly be positive about, but sow all our attention has to be turned to a Big East member Xavier, a team that was in the NCAA Elite Eight just a few years ago. Hopefully playing tough at 19th ranked Iowa, as well as Big 10 member, Illinois, will prepare us for another big challenge."

The Colonials jumped on the Eagles from the start as Megan Smith and Stamolamprou knocked down three pointers in the first two minutes of the game. Smith hit her second trey of the game and then Jolie Olingende scored on an assist from Stamolamprou and RMU quickly built an 11-2 lead less than three minutes after tip-off.

Another trey by Stamolamprou pushed the Colonials lead to a first-half high of 12 points, 16-4, with 14:41 showing on the clock. An 8-0 run, featuring five points from Janelle Lane, allowed Coppin State to trim the lead to four points. RMU responded with a Rebeca Navarro three-pointer and a putback by Jocelynne Jones and stretched the lead to 31-23 at the break.

Battling back and forth, Olingende finished off a three-point play with 17:23 to give the Colonials a 10-point lead, 40-30. Coppin State would cut the lead to single digits just once the rest of the way when Janelle Lane scored on lay-up with 13:35 showing.

Ravelli book-ended a 7-2 run with three-pointers that allowed RMU push the lead to a game-high 19 points, 65-49, with 5:52 left. Coppin State cut the lead to 13 points in the stretch, but three-pointers by Stamolamprou and Navarro buried any hopes of a comeback as the Colonials won going away, 75-58.

Robert Morris travels to Xavier for a 2:00 p.m. game next Sunday, Nov. 30, at Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
