Vint Ties Record in Colonials’ Loss to Lindenwood

Rebecca Vint tied Thea Imbrogno’s program record for career points in the defeat

Wentzville, Mo. – A day after the Robert Morris University women's hockey team knocked off Lindenwood University in overtime, the Lions bit back with an extra-time winner this evening as they defeated the Colonials in College Hockey America (CHA) play, 4-3, from Lindenwood Ice Arena.

Robert Morris (4-9-1, 1-3-0 CHA) split its second consecutive road series with Lindenwood (3-5-1, 2-1-1 CHA). This is the first time the Colonials have played two consecutive overtime games since Feb. 18-19, 2011 against Syracuse.

Senior captain Rebecca Vint is now one point shy of becoming the program's all-time point leader as she tied Thea Imbrogno's (2010-14) mark of 122 with an assist.

The Lions struck first for the second-straight night as Jordyn Constance lit the lamp 30 seconds after the opening faceoff.

The Colonials responded with two tallies in the second period. Senior defenseman Kelsey Gunn tied it up with her first goal of the season off passes from classmate Erin Staniewski and freshman forward Jessica Gazzola. RMU would take the lead less than three minutes later as Natalie Fraser scored for the second consecutive night. Sophomores Mikaela Lowater and Mackenzie Johnston were credited with the assists.

Lindenwood knotted it up at two just 1:33 into the third frame. Just 12 seconds later, however, junior assistant captain Ashley Vesci gave the Colonials back the lead with her fourth goal of the season. Vint and fellow senior Katie Fergus earned the helpers on the tally.

With 6:41 remaining in regulation and Gazzola in the box for slashing, Constance scored her second goal of the game to tie it up.

Lions kept the pressure on after the tying tally, but couldn't get a fourth goal at the end of regulation. They continued their press to begin the extra stanza and were eventually awarded as Katie Erickson found a loose puck and slotted it home to give Lindenwood the victory.

The Colonials outshot the Lions, 40-23, and held a 43-27 edge in faceoffs.

Sophomore goaltender Jessica Dodds made 20 saves in the defeat.

Robert Morris is off next week before returning home for a CHA series against Syracuse. Opening faceoff for the first meeting between the Colonials and Orange is set for Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:05 p.m. from 84 Lumber Arena.
