Pittsburgh, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team dropped a College Hockey America (CHA) contest to Penn State University, 5-0, this afternoon from 84 Lumber Arena.
Robert Morris' (4-11-3, 1-4-2 CHA) defeat to Penn State (8-6-3, 3-3-1 CHA) was its first in program history. The Colonials had previously gone 8-0-0 against the Nittany Lions.
RMU held the faceoff edge on PSU, 33-18, and doubled the Nittany Lions in shots, 42-21, but couldn't solve the puzzle that was Celine Whitlinger, who blanked the Colonials for her second shutout of the season.
After chances by sophomore forward
Mackenzie Johnston and senior captain
Rebecca Vint were turned away by the unfriendly pipe, the Nittany Lions took advance with 3:06 remaining in the first period as Shannon Yoxheimer ripped a slap-shot past sophomore goaltender
Jessica Dodds.
PSU's second goal came early in the middle frame as Hannah Hoenshell scored unassisted.
The Nittany Lions would add the remaining three goals in the final stanza at the 1:14, 7:11, and 16:45 marks.
Dodds made 16 saves in the loss. Fellow sophomore
Carley Catherine saw her first action between the pipes with 3:15 remaining, but did not see a shot.
Robert Morris completes the fall semester slate of its schedule tomorrow at 3:05 p.m. against Penn State.
