Box Score 2 Boulder, Colo. – The
Robert Morris University volleyball team dropped matches to Colorado and Idaho State this evening in the closing day of the Omni Invitational.
Robert Morris (1-9, 0-0 NEC) opened up the day with a match against Colorado (7-1, 0-0 Pac-12) at noon local time as the host Buffaloes – who won a game in the NCAA Tournament last season – defeated the Colonials in straight sets.
Colorado took the first set, 25-11. Five different players registered a kill for RMU, while senior outside hitter
Sydney Sizemore tallied three digs.
Sizemore's classmate,
Erica Robb, picked up three kills in the second frame. The Buffaloes took the set, 25-9.
The Colonials stuck around with Colorado for part of the third set, eventually falling 25-15. RMU knotted things up early at four and forced a timeout from the Buffaloes after freshman setter
Brianna Frakes served up an ace to make it 13-10.
In the nightcap, the Colonials fell to Idaho State (3-6, 0-0 Big Sky) in three sets.
Sizemore was all over the court defensively in the first set, tallying 12 digs, but the Bengals took an early lead with a 25-16 win.
Robb was again RMU's go-to player on offense in the second set as she registered four kills. ISU won the set, 25-13.
The Bengals closed the match with a 25-17 win in the final frame. Sophomore middle blocker
Leah Dunivan had two kills and two block assists for the Colonials.
Sizemore finished the night with a team-high 20 digs. Robb led RMU with eight kills, while Frakes dished out 11 assists and two service aces.
Robert Morris continues its road trip with a match against Akron this coming Tuesday. The meeting with the Zips is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start from James A. Rhodes Arena.
