Harrisonville, Va. - The
Robert Morris University men's soccer team made first half goals by
Carl Reid and
Neco Brett stand in a 2-1 victory at James Madison Friday night. The Colonials win is their second straight and moves them to 3-2-1 on the season. The Dukes slip to 3-3-1.
In a first half that RMU controlled, Reid's first goal of the season put the Colonials on top in the 23rd minute. He was the first to the ball and buried the rebound after Kyle Morton stopped a shot by
Bruce Cullen. Cullen was credited with an assist on teh play.
Matt Fonagy then fed a long ball to Brett, who was able to beat one JMU defender before burying his sixth goal of the year inside the right post. His score staked RMU to a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.
The Colonials held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the first half before the Dukes cut the lead in half just 38 seconds after the second frame got underway. A scramble in front of the RMU net led to Toby Appleton tallying his first marker of the year.
The goal was the only one allowed by junior
Brenden Alfery as he finished the game with five saves. Morton had two stops while allowing two goals by the hosts.
Robert Morris returns to North Athletic Complex Sunday, Sept. 21, when they host Canisius in a 3:00 p.m. game.
