Monahan's First Goal Is Gamewinner at Canisius

Robert Morris snaps a seven-game winless skid with 1-0 decision.

Buffalo, N.Y. – Greer Monahan tallied her first career goal and Becky Schoenecker kept the sheet clean as the Robert Morris University women's soccer team took a 1-0 decision at Canisius Saturday afternoon. The win ends a seven-game winless skid for the Colonials and moves their record to 2-6-1 overall. The Golden Griffs slip to 1-9.

Monahan's first career goal came just after the eight-minute mark following a goal kick by the Griffs. The kick was short and Monahan was able to collect the ball and deposit it in the back of net before the defense could recover.

Senior goalkeeper Becky Schoenecker then ensured the single goal stood up. She made nine saves on the afternoon to record her second shutout of the year and move her career total to 5.5, fourth most in RMU annals.

The Colonials outshot the Griffs, 8-4, in the first half before Canisius finished the game with a 15-10 advantage.

Robert Morris returns to North Athletic Complex this Tuesday, Sept. 23, for a 4:00 p.m. game against Howard.
