Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's soccer team outshot visiting UMBC but found itself on the shortside of a 1-0 outcome at North Athletic Complex Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Colonials record to 2-8-1 on the season while the Retrievers improve to 8-2-0 with their third straight win.
The Retrievers got the game's only goal in the 22nd minute as they surprised the Colonials with a quick restart on free kick deep in RMU territory. Nikki Boretti tucked the ball into the left corner where Lisa Nanov ran on and hit a cross to the center of the RMU box. Jessy Brown out jumped everyone to head her fifth goal of the season inside the left post.
The Colonials continued a recent trend of hoisting shots with possession inside the attacking third. RMU had trouble putting the ball on frame as Retrievers keeper Jen Nance was called upon to make just one save on the 11 RMU shots. That save came in the 84th minute on a toe poke by junior
Madison Kozlowski.
UMBC attempted six shots. Colonials keeper
Becky Schoenecker had one save for RMU.
Today's game wrapped up the non-conference portion of the Colonials schedule. Northeast Conference play kicks off Friday, Oct. 3, when RMU hosts Central Connecticut State in a 3:00 p.m. game at North Athletic Complex.
