Colonials Take Final Road Trip Before Home Opener

RMU heads to Hamilton, N.Y., for two-game series with Colgate

Pittsburgh, Pa. – After a promising opening weekend at No. 9 Bemidji State, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team aims to close out Colgate and post their first victories of the season with a two-game series on the road opening Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. at Starr Rink in Hamilton N.Y.

The Colonials (0-1-1) improved immensely from Game 1 to Game 2 in their season-opening series at No. 9 Bemidji State, but fell just short of a win last Saturday after forcing overtime late in the third period. The performance brings promise for the young squad, as the freshmen made immediate impacts in their first collegiate weekend, including rookie forward Amber Rennie who scored two goals to propel RMU to overtime with a top-10 opponent. First-year defenseman Kirsten Welsh tallied three assists in two games and collectively, four freshmen combined for six points in Game 2. The Robert Morris penalty kill unit successfully held off Bemidji State on seven of its eight one-man advantage opportunities.

Freshman Phenoms
In last Saturday's 4-4 tie in OT at No. 9 Bemidji State, four freshmen combined for six points. Amber Rennie's two goals put the Colonials in good position to challenge the Beavers, including the late third period game-tying score that forced overtime. Kirsten Welsh posted two assists after dishing out her first collegiate helper in Game 1. Maggie LaGue tallied her first career assist on a Mikaela Lowater power play goal, and Sarah Quaranta notched her second assist of the weekend in Saturday's contest and finished the night +1.

Rennie Rising
The first-year forward from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Amber Rennie rose to the occasion in her first weekend of collegiate action. Rennie's two goals earned her CHA Rookie of the Week honors. She leads the nation in scoring percentage (.667).

Killin' It
The Robert Morris penalty kill unit was successful in holding off Bemidji State on seven of eight Beaver advantages.
