Brooklyn, N.Y. – The
Robert Morris University women's soccer team tied its season-high for goals in a 4-2 win at LIU Brooklyn Sunday afternoon.
Cassie Raymond finished with a goal and an assist to lead the squad's offensive output as they improve to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in Northeast Conference games. The Blackbirds slip to 5-13 and 1-6 in league play.
Raymond put the Colonials on top in the 29th minute as she sent a lob shot over the head of LIU Brooklyn keeper Jessica Montrose who had come off her line to challenge the attempt. It was the only goal of the half.
A penalty kick by Lucy Gunton-Jones tied the game, 1-1, in the 53rd minute, but the deadlock would not last long.
Kristie Hamilton set –up
Lauren Sulkowski from 20 yards. Sulkowski's high shot from the right wing looped its way past Montrose to give RMU its lead back less than four minutes after LIU Brooklyn tied the game.
The Colonials continued offensive pressure resulted in a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Erin Ritzer capitalized on the opportunity. The Blackbirds made things interesting by tying the game in the 83rd minute as Madison Gomez sent a header in off a cross from Gunton-Jones.
Again, RMU answered and answered quickly. Raymond sent a pass to the center of the box where
Madison Kozlowski buried a shot from point-blank range, essentially icing the contest in the 85th minute.
