Pittsburgh, Pa. – Despite holding two leads in the game, the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team tied the Penn State Nittany Lions, 2-2, in Game 1 of a two-game College Hockey America series Friday evening at 84 Lumber Arena.

Amber Rennie each tallied a power-play goal to put the Colonials (7-4-2, 3-1-1) in position to win the game, but the Nittany Lions (3-7-3, 0-2-3) answered each RMU goal with a score of their own. Howard finished the night with two points (1-1-2), while freshman

Sarah Quaranta all added an assist. Robert Morris went 2-for-3 on the man advantage, while Penn State went 0-for-3.
After both teams scored one goal apiece through 20 minutes of action, Howard roofed a shot over the right shoulder of Penn State goaltender Celine Whitlinger to secure a 2-1 lead for the home team 5:52 into the second period. The Colonials held onto the goal advantage through the remainder of the frame and carried it into the third, but the Nittany Lions responded with a goal off of a rebound at 3:55 in the third to tie the game for the second time on the night, 2-2.
The game stretched into overtime after neither team was able to come up with a goal through the remainder of the third. Both squads fired three shots on goal apiece in the extra five minutes of action, but were unable to find the back of the net as time expired.
Rennie put the Colonials on the board first, as a shot from Howard deflected off the rookie and into the net to give the home team a 1-0 advantage at 11:32 in period one.
Penn State just barely edged Robert Morris in shots, 33-31. Junior goaltender
Jessica Dodds made 31 saves for the Colonials.
