#20 Colonials bounce back for 7-1 victory over AIC

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Robert Morris University men's hockey used a four-goal first period to collect its' third Atlantic Hockey victory of the season with a 7-1 win over American International.

Brandon Denham lights the lamp for the fifth time this season, just 1:36 into the game off a pass from Matt Cope to make it a 1-0 Colonials lead. Denham has scored first for RMU four times through eight games. Less than 3 minutes later, Zac Lynch chipped home the puck on the power play for his fifth goal of the season. National player of the month Greg Gibson scores at the 9:03 mark, bringing his season total to 8.

Playing in his first career game since joining the Colonials, Pittsburgh native Alex Dagnal took advantage, scoring at the 16:32 mark for his first collegiate goal. Dagnal's tally is the first by a program newcomer this season.

RMU opened the second period quickly. Daniel Leavens took a long rebound and fired it home to make it a 5-goal lead. Brady Ferguson scored his fourth goal of the season 6:36 into the second frame to make it 6-0, with assists going to David Friedmann and Tyson Wilson. Timmy Moore netted his first goal of the year less than four minutes later to push the Colonials lead to 7-0.

AIC's Shawn McBride scored a power play goal to make it a 7-1 game, ending a shutout streak for Dalton Izyk that extends back to the third period of the October 23 game at Niagara. Andrew Pikul closed the game in net for the Colonials, logging 20:00 of ice time and making 12 saves in his second career appearance.

Robert Morris (4-2-2, 3-1-2 AHC) heads to the bye week and returns to Atlantic Hockey action at Army West Point on November 20-21.
