Alex Bontje nets first collegiate goal

Henrietta, NY – Robert Morris men's hockey suffered just its' second conference defeat of the season with a 6-3 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday night.

The Tigers struck first when senior defenseman Alexander Kuqali fired home is first goal of the season to make it a 1-0 game 2:20 into the first period. The Colonials responded by taking advantage of man-advantage situations. Brandon Denham knocked the puck past goaltender Christian Short for his tenth goal of the season, fourth on the power play, to tie the game 1-1.

Brady Ferguson and David Friedmann had assists on the tally. RMU scored once again with 6:25 remaining in the first on a power play goal by Friedmann, his third of the season. Friedmann fired the puck right by Short with a snipe from near the blue line, assisted by Chase Golightly and Ferguson, giving the Colonials a 2-1 lead heading into the second frame.

RIT tied the game early in the second with a goal by Abbott Girduckis 2:15 into the period. The Colonials fought off two Tigers power plays to keep the game tied 2-2, but at the 11:35 mark Myles Powell finished a wraparound pass by Erik Brown to give RIT a 3-2 lead. The Tigers finally capitalized on their fourth power play opportunity as Powell put home his second of the game to give RIT a two-goal lead at the end of the second.
