Buscaglia Wins 200th As RMU Head Coach

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Robert Morris University head coach Sal Buscaglia secured his 200th victory as Colonials head coach via a 77-58 win at LIU Brooklyn in a Northeast Conference game Monday night. Buscaglia, in his 12th season at RMU, is the second coach in team history to reach the bicentennial mark and is now 687-352 overall in his career.

"We took control of the game right from the outset," said Buscaglia. "I thought our team executed our strategy and game plan real well. We distributed the ball well against the pressure and double-teams, which left us real good looks that for the most part we scored on. It's additionally rewarding with the amount of travel we do to sweep on the road. Each and every game now becomes even more important and we have to retain our focus and energy and our preparation continues to be of highest importance."

The Colonials, who have won nine straight and are 12-11 overall and 10-2 in the NEC, were paced by 24 points from sophomore guard Anna Niki Stamolamprou. She went 11-of-17 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. She added seven rebounds and four assists as well. No one else reach double-digits as all 11 Robert Morris players found the scoring column. It's the 10th time this season that 10 or more players have scored for the Colonials.

Sophomore Judith Sole threatened a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Ashley Ravelli, Jocelynne Jones and Lou Mataly all had eight points as well.

Robert Morris came out of the gates white hot and stifled LIU Brooklyn (7-16, 4-8 NEC) on the defensive end of the floor. The Colonials bolted out to a 19-0 lead and did not allow a field goal for the opening 10:36 of the game. Stamolamprou had eight points in the first 2:04 and RMU hit its opening four shots.

The Blackbirds managed to break-up the shutout 8:37 into the game with a pair of free throws by DeAngelique Waithe that stopped the Colonials opening run at 19-0. Robert Morris pushed the lead to 21-2 before Demi Tomlinson got LIU's first field goal with a three-pointer at the 9:24 mark. The Blackbirds missed their first 16 shots of the game.

The Colonials torrid pace slowed shortly, but they ended the half on an 11-4 run. Ashley Ravelli hit two three-pointers, including one just before the halftime buzzer, and Lou Mataly added another to put RMU on top, 44-18, at the half.

Robert Morris pushed the margin to as many as 30 points, 64-34, when Mikalah Mulrain scored from the charity strip with 11:00 left in regulation. LIU would go on a 9-0 surge a bit later as Shanovia Dove scored seven of her 20 points during the stretch to cut the margin to 18. But the Blackbirds would get no closer as Robert Morris held on for the 77-58 victory.

The Colonials shot 47.8% (33-69) in the game, dominating the paint to the tune of 34-14. Robert Morris took advantage of 16 offensive rebounds to score 18 second chance points.

The Colonials return to the hardwood Saturday, February 14, when they take host the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the Charles L. Sewall Center.
