Fairfield, Conn. – A poor first half doomed the Robert Morris University men's soccer team this afternoon as it fell to Sacred Heart University, 3-0, in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
Robert Morris (3-9-2, 0-4-1 NEC) kept pace with Sacred Heart (3-9-2, 1-4 NEC) in the second half, demonstrated by an even 6-6 count in shots. However, the host Pioneers rode an 11-2 difference in the first half to a trio of goals and the victory.
In the 17th minute, a corner kick from Oscar Curras found Chris Carniero, who chipped it in over Colonial goalkeeper Winter Fondi. Six minutes later, Dylan Santos rifled a cross into the box, catching the foot of Ezra Siyadhuba from two yards out.
With five seconds remaining in the first half, SHU connected on another cross as Shaquille Saunchez found Hadynho Sarr for the team's third goal.
Fondi made five saves between the sticks. Bayley Winkel generated a team-best five shots.
Robert Morris returns home on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m. when it hosts Central Connecticut.
