Moore's Game-Winner Sends Colonials Past Army

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's hockey earned a hard-fought 2-1 win Friday night over Army West Point in the Colonials home opener. With the Black Knights leading 1-0 in the second period, freshman forward Daniel Mantenuto notched his first career goal to tie the game 1-1. Timmy Moore scored his third goal of the season, a power play goal, to put the Colonials ahead 2-1 with less than three minutes remaining in the second. 

THE BULLET

  • RMU advances their overall record to 2-2-1 holding the same record in conference play. Army is now 2-2-1, 2-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey.

  • Robert Morris finished with a 30-28 advantage in shots on goal.

  • The Colonials won the faceoff battle by a 33-30 margin. Brady Ferguson took the bulk of the draws, winning 17 and losing 8.

  • The first two goals of the game were scored by freshman forwards from both teams, Daniel Mantenuto for RMU and Brendan Soucie for Army.

  • Daniel Leavens led the Colonials in shots with 7.

  • RMU has scored a power play goal in every game this season, with the nation's second ranked power play heading into the weekend.

  • The Colonials penalty kill went a perfect 5-for-5, while the RMU power play was 1-for-5.

  • Freshman Goalie Francis Marotte saved 27 of the 28 shots taken by the Black Knights in his second career start.

FIRST
  • Colonial forward Brady Ferguson led both teams after one period with 7 faceoff wins.

  • RMU goaltender Francis Marotte stopped all four Army shots he faced. Black Knights goaltender Parker Gahagen saved all five of the Colonials shots.

  • Both Colonials John Rey and Daniel Leavens blocked two shots in the period and that number held throughout the game.

SECOND
  • First goal of the game comes unassisted from Army freshman Brendan Soucie, 7:14 into the period, for his second of the year.

  • Colonial freshman Daniel Mantenuto comes back two minutes later to tie the game 1-1 with his first collegiate goal and point, assisted by Luke Lynch.

  • Timmy Moore nets a power-play goal, tipping in a shot by John Rey, to put the Colonials up 2-1 with 2:48 remaining in the second period. Spencer Dorowicz picked up his first point of the season with an assist on the goal.

THIRD

  • Jacob Coleman and Daniel Leavens both saw solid scoring chances but couldn't capitalize on Army's Gahagen.

  • Army took seven shots on three power plays, but the Colonials penalty kill stood strong to closeout the game.


TONIGHT'S MO-MENTUM

Timmy Moore's go-ahead power play goal to give the Colonials a 2-1 lead marks the first game-winning goal of his career. It's the third goal of the season for Moore and his eleventh career goal.

Robert Morris goes for the sweep of the Black Knights in the second game of the weekend on Saturday night at 7:05pm at 84 Lumber Arena.
