Moon Township, Pa. – A quick three sets thanks to a balanced offensive effort were all the
Robert Morris University volleyball team needed to sweep the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Sewall Center.
With the victory, head coach
Dale Starr earned his 200
th career win overall at the Division I level.
Five different Colonials posted five kills or more in a well-balanced offensive effort. Seniors
Leah Dunivan and
Arden Fisher led the way with eight kills apiece. Junior
Deja Tamlin tallied six kills, and freshman
Kendra Harlow and senior
April Krivoniak combined for 10. Krivoniak also added a season-high three service aces. Junior setter
Brianna Frakes dealt 29 assists. Fisher, Krivoniak, and sophomore
Allie Yurkovich all reached double-digits in digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson (3-25, 1-9 NEC) opened the third set with the first three points in the hopes of one final rally, but it was short lived, as Robert Morris (12-14, 6-4) tied things up, 5-5. The Knights went ahead once more, 7-5, but the Colonials captured six of the next seven points to take an 11-8 lead and force a FDU timeout. Despite the Knights' attempt to regroup, the Colonials led the rest of the way, and used a 5-1 run late in the frame to secure set three, 25-17.
FDU had some early momentum in set two, but a Fisher kill and back-to-back aces from Lord sparked a five-point run that put the Colonials on top, 8-4. Later in the frame, RMU used an impressive 13-2 scoring streak to take control of the set, and limited the Knights to 11 points.
Even though Fairleigh Dickinson opened set one with a 6-3 lead, Robert Morris never wavered. Instead, they responded with four points in a row to pull ahead, 7-6, and never trailed the rest of the frame.
Robert Morris returns to the Sewall Center for one final home match to host NEC-leading Sacred Heart in a Senior Day matinee on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.
Final Farewell
At the conclusion of Sunday's match, seniors
Leah Dunivan,
