Robert Morris University football held a three-point lead late in the third quarter before eventually succumbing to Bryant, 24-13, at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, R.I., Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials defense forced a pair of first half fumbles and allowed just 225 yards on the afternoon.
Dalton Easton hit Matt Sewall in the left flat and the junior escaped one tackle and rambled 23 yards to break the scoreless tie.
Joseph Uhatafe forced a fumble with a sack of Easton and
Gee Stanley recovered his second fumble of the game to give the Colonials possession at the Bulldogs 26-yard line. Three plays later,
Connor Shennan booted a 35-yard field goal to make it 7-3 with 10:41 left in the second quarter.
A 50-yard field goal from Ricky Perez capped the opening half scoring to give Bryant a 10-3 lead after 30 minutes.
The Colonials capped a nine-play, 42-yard drive with a 44-yard field goal from Shennan to start the third quarter. On the ensuing drive,
Gerald Ferguson blocked a punt, scooped it up and rumbled in from 26-yards to give Robert Morris their first lead, 13-10, with 1:56 left in the third quarter.
Bryant responded by going 60 yards in six plays and retook the lead when Easton found Mitchel Baxter from five-yards out. An interception by Charles Wingate on the next possession gave Bryant the ball at the four-yard line. Brenden Femiano went off the right side on the next play and the Bulldogs took a 24-13 lead that they would not relinquish.
Robert Morris caps its 2016 schedule next weekend when they host Wagner in a Noon game at Joe Walton Stadium.
