RECAP
First
A scoreless first period, thanks in part to seven penalties. RMU and Sacred Heart were a combined 0-for-5 on the power play with the Pioneers taking five shots during three power play opportunities and the Colonials taking four shots in two. Sacred Heart outshot the Colonials 13-10 in the frame, with Robert Morris winning the faceoff battle with a 16-9 advantage.
Francis Marotte and Brett Magnus were in goal, making 13 and ten saves, respectively.
Second
The second period begins with the Colonials on the penalty kill. Marotte made a stop with the right pad against the Pioneers top unit to help complete the successful kill.
Spencer Dorowicz had a shot stopped point blank by Magnus four minutes into the second, one of the better scoring opportunities of the game to that point. Marotte put the right pad to work again six minutes into the period, kicking the puck aside to keep a dangerous Justin Danforth off the scoresheet.
During a Colonials power play midway through the period,
Luke Lynch was able to skate around the Pioneers and send a shot off the post, then followed it up with a shot on a rebound of an attempt by
Daniel Mantenuto.
Sacred Heart scored the first goal of the game on a power play goal by Mitch Nylen with 5:53 to go in the period.
The Colonials were quick to respond with a line that had been clicking throughout much of the period. Dorowicz dangled the puck past Magnus for the game-tying goal, with assists to
Timmy Moore and Lynch.
Third
The Colonials open the third period on the power play and another Sacred Heart penalty briefly makes it a 5-on-3. Just after the two-man advantage expires, Robert Morris cashes in.
Brady Ferguson lights the lamp on the power play with assists going to
Daniel Leavens and
Eric Israel. For Ferguson and Leavens, this runs their point streaks to eight games.
Marotte (7-2-1) made another impressive stop on Danforth in the final 90 seconds and
Rob Mann blocked a shot at the buzzer as RMU finished off the 2-1 victory. Mann finished the night leading the Colonials with five blocked shots.
MO-MENTUM
After several chances, the Moore-Dorowicz-Lynch line broke through on Dorowicz's second period goal.
UP NEXT
The Colonials travel to Bentley for a conference series next Friday and Saturday. Robert Morris is one win away from the program's 200th victory.
