Ten Find Scoring Column in Rout of Wagner

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Robert Morris University women's basketball team easily outpaced the Wagner Seahawks, 79-49, at the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island, N.Y. The Colonials improve to 16-12 and 10-7 in the Northeast Conference. The result, coupled with a loss by Fairleigh Dickinson at Central Connecticut, ensures the Colonials at least a fourth-place finish in the league standings and a quarterfinal home game in the NEC Tournament on March 6.

"I really like the way we played as a team and were focused right from the tip," said 13th-year RMU head coach Sal Buscagli. "Being a team, and not individuals, is what we're all about. If we can keep on focusing and understanding that if we play both ends of the floor as a team and trust in each other on the court, really good things can happen."

The Colonials received scoring from 10 players for the 10th time this season. Anna Niki Stamolamprou and Megan Smith shared team-high honors with 14 points each. Stamolamprou also became just the third player in team history with 200 career three-pointers as she hit a pair Saturday. Smith went 4-of-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Ashley Ravelli added 11 points with a trio of treys.

Robert Morris jumped out to a 9-2 lead in just under five minutes of first quarter action. Wagner (5-23, 3-14 NEC) cut the margin to four points on a pair of occasions, but five first quarter points from both Rebeca Navarro and Smith kept the Colonials on top, 18-13, after 10 minutes.

Ravelli came out in the second quarter and tallied the first five points of the frame. The surge from the Italian-born guard put RMU up 23-13. A three-point play by Jazmine Hamlet briefly brought the margin to single digits before Mikalah Mulrain finished off a nice feed from Anna Niki Stamolamprou. Smith helped the Colonials finish the half on an 8-2 run, scoring the final four points of the half to stake them to a 39-24 lead at the break.

Robert Morris broke the game wide open in the third quarter. Continuing to hold a 13-point lead, Lou Mataly buried a three-pointer from the corner. Her shot started a 13-0 run that ended when Janee Brown hit a lay-up to put the Colonials on top, 57-31, with 3:37 left in the frame. The lead stretched to as many as 33 points when Stamolamprou scored seven point in a two-minute stretch late in the fourth quarter.

Robert Morris finishes the regular season portion of its schedule Monday, Feb. 29, when they host Saint Francis University in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Charles L. Sewall Center.
