Macon, Ga. – The first overtime affair for
Robert Morris University men's lacrosse this season ended in victory for the Colonials, as RMU defeated Mercer, 11-10, Tuesday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
The win was the first road victory for Robert Morris (2-4) in 2016, while Mercer (2-3) suffered its first home loss on the year.

With 59 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Mercer tied the game at 10 goals apiece to force overtime. Following a Mercer timeout at 3:02 in the extra frame, the Bears' Matt Quinn ripped a shot that went wide, and Robert Morris made a subsequent successful clear attempt and entered the Colonials offensive zone. Torok-Orban set up the Bohl game-winning goal, which hit the back of the net with 1:47 left in overtime.
RMU set the tone early, but late in the second quarter, Mercer kicked off a six-goal streak that put the Bears ahead, 9-6. Robert Morris responded with four consecutive goals to start the fourth quarter, which put the visiting team ahead by one, but Mercer managed the late tally that sent the game into extended minutes.
The Colonials trailed by two goals early, but responded with four straight to take a two-goal lead to open the second quarter. Wales earned RMU a three-goal lead, its largest of the game, when he followed up Torok-Orban's second of three goals on the day. The Bears netted the final goal of the half, but the Colonials entered the break with a two-goal advantage to mark the second time this season Robert Morris outscored its opponent in the first half.
By the numbers, both teams were evenly matched. Mercer held a slight edge in shots (46-44) and ground balls (24-22), but RMU won 13 of 25 faceoffs.
Robert Morris remains on the road this week for a Saturday afternoon match up with Marquette on March 12 at 1 p.m.
Strong StartFor the second time this season, the Colonials led after the first half. They scored six goals through the first and second quarter, while the Colonials posted 14 goals in the first half of their five previous outings combined. RMU is now 2-0 when leading after the first 30 minutes of action.
