Buffalo, N.Y. – A season-high 10 goals in the first half helped the
Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team set the tone early in a dominant 15-6 victory over Canisius College on Tuesday evening at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Colonials (5-7, 2-2) conclude their non-conference season with a crucial victory heading into the final stretch of the Northeast Conference schedule. They went 3-5 in action outside of the league this year.
Ten different Colonials contributed points to the victory, led by senior attack
Luke Laszkiewicz. The Oshawa, Ontario, native set a new Robert Morris individual game record with a career-high eight goals and tied the all-time individual game record (Jake Hayes versus Quinnipiac on April 21, 2012) with a career-best nine points.
Sophomore attack
Adrian Torok-Orban matched his career high in goals (four) and points (five) in the win. Freshman midfield
Tyson Gibson, sophomore midfield
Leighton Gibson and senior midfield
Eric Rankel each scored a goal, while redshirt freshman attack
Matt Schmidt recorded his first career point for the Colonials with an assist.
Robert Morris rattled off six straight goals over a span of 19 minutes and four seconds between the end of the second quarter and beginning of the fourth to take a ten-goal lead over the Golden Griffins and secure control of the game. Laszkiewicz accounted for four of the six goals during that run, including three unassisted efforts.
The Colonials opened the game with the first three goals of the evening and allowed the Golden Griffins to reduce their lead to two at 12:35 in the second quarter, but Robert Morris took over the first half and scored a season-high 10 goals in the first thirty minutes of action.
RMU will honor its seven seniors prior to its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. against St. Joseph's at Joe Walton Stadium. In conjunction with Senior Day, the Colonials are hosting a USILA/HEADstrong Foundation Cancer Awareness game when they host the Hawks.
